January 2012 New Craigalmond Scout District

Inverleith District and Haymarket District are merging on 1 April 2012 to form a new district. Following a suggestion and voting process the name Craigalmond has been chosen for the new combined district.

Therefore, in due course we will become "122nd Craigalmond Scouts", rather than "122nd Inverleith Scouts"

3/9/2011 New Group Scout Leader and more leaders

Graeme Robertson has taken on the role of Group Scout Leader (GSL).  He will be supporting the leaders in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and co-ordinating the work of the Scout Group.  We look forward to introducing him to you at the "Review of the Year" on Friday 7 October.

Other Leaders

Natalie has stood down as Assistant Beaver Leader and Cat will step down as Beaver Leader at Christmas (both to concentrate on their final university placements and exams).  We are therefore seeking new leaders to work with the Beavers.

Catriona Cub Leader is currently the only appointed leader working with Cubs, so we do need a couple more Assistant Cub Leaders to work alongside Catriona.

Scout Leader James Hardie is taking a parental leave break following the birth of his second child, Luke at the end of July.  The Scout team is currently Graham, Niall and Mark (and James again soon).  However with 33 Scouts now in the troop, we would still like more assistant leaders.

Explorers.  We jointly sponsor (with Granton Scouts) the East Inverleith Explorer Scout Unit, which is lead by Stuart and Rob.  They would also like a larger team and we'd like to be able to support them with a leader from 122.

So - there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in leadership!  We do currently have 2 or 3 new volunteers, who we are discussing roles with - so an update on roles filled and roles still to fill will come soon.

Can you help?

More help needed - please

Scouting for…..

Grown ups.

Could you help - as a parent helper, (once a term), a section assistant (on a rota), or as an assistant leader?

Have you been a Scout and would like to be involved again? or would you like to become involved for the first time?

We have recently recruited:

A Beaver Leader and Assistant Beaver Leader

2 Assistant Cub Leaders

2 Assistant Scout Leaders

We are looking for volunteers to help run the weekly programme (on Friday evenings) and also with camps and other events.  We would like to have a group of helpers, each giving a manageable amount of time, rather than one or two people doing too much!

Please speak to any of the leaders (Scouts - James & Graham, Cubs - Catriona Scrimgeour, Beavers - Catriona Morton), or email us on

"DON'T feel worried… Scouting is not an abstruse or difficult science: rather it is a jolly game if you take it in the right light. At the same time it is educative, and (like mercy) it is apt to benefit him that giveth as well as him that receiveth." - Robert Baden-Powell
